Description: This training is presented by a Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) certified HMIT (Hazardous Materials Instructor Trainer). Utilizing a CVSA certified instructor provides participants with the most up to date Haz/mat regulatory training available along with a Roadside Inspection enforcement perspective.
Presentation to cover general requirements necessary for a Carrier to comply with FMCSA Haz/Mat regulations. This presentation can double as a refresher course bringing the Carrier up to date on current requirements or as a guide for Carriers contemplating the addition of Hazardous Materials shipments to their operations.
In some situations, Hazardous Material duties have been handed down to employees over periods of time. Employees inheriting these duties may be using outdated guidelines attempting to be compliant with FMCSA regulations, just because that’s the way it has always been done. The instructor, whose background as a FMCSA Auditor will outline the gaps in training and management controls that investigators often see.

The “Function Specific” training component will be briefly reviewed but is specific to each carrier. All NCTA members will be offered an opportunity for review of their Function Specific Training component and Haz/Mat Training program at deeply discounted rates only available for NCTA members.
Meet the Instructor:
Val Conner
Val Conner is a CVSA certified Hazardous Material Instructor and has 47 years with the Virginia State Police and 30+ years in accident reconstruction. He is recognized in numerous State and Federal courts as an expert accident reconstructionist. He is also North American FMCSA certified Safety Auditor, North American Standard-Level I Parts A & B, North American Standard Hazardous Materials, North American Standard Cargo Tanker, North American Standard Other Bulk Packaging, North American Standard FMCSA Safety Auditor certified. He also has the following education and experience:
